Fucked Up - One Day (1/27/23)

If you are not familiar with the band Fucked Up, then you might just be fucked up. Jokes aside, Fucked Up have been a big name in the punk/hardcore scene since about 2001 and were quick to become staples of the punk and hardcore scene. They have released a total of six studio albums now, but it seems like a whole lot more. This band has done so much since their inception.

One of the most memorable moments that I can recall is an appearance on MTV Live where the band played in the studio bathroom. Unbeknownst to MTV and the producers, the band and fans completely trashed the bathroom and were cut off after only playing one song. Another time, the band played a festival with all bands with the word "fuck" in the name (Fuck Buttons, Holy Fuck, Fuck) in the village of Fucking, Austria. Yes, that is a real place. And yet another time, the band played a 12 hour long show in New York. Now that, my friends, is punk fucking rock. Anyway, if you haven't had the pleasure, Fucked Up have quite a bit to listen to, including a self-described "rock-opera" in the album David Comes Alive. All are great and this latest release is no exception.

Supposedly the whole One Day album was written and produced in just ..... wait for it .... one day. I don't doubt the skills and power of this band, but One Day does not sound like and album that was hurriedly put together. It sounds like years of work went into this. I applaud the band's ability to continue in the art of experimentation with releases, going from rock-operas to grand opus albums such as Dose Your Dreams 80 minutes plus brilliance. So, this album comes as no surprise. While it does tend to lose a little substance towards the end, it is still a magnificent listen. Give it a go.
